The Odighizuwa Foundation deeply understands the challenges that come with being a single parent. Yet we believe that every parent can overcome these challenges if they are supported by a community of individuals and organizations who are committed to providing education and various resources as well as opportunities that are unique to their experience. Therefore it is our vision as an organization to create this incredible community in which single parents can thrive with and for their beautiful children. Why Odighizuwa Foundation wants to serve?
Owa and Osa’s story about honoring their mother
The Odighizuwa Foundation is for Owamagbe (Owa) and Osawaru (Osa) an opportunity to fully honor their mother Abieyuwa. She has been their biggest inspiration and motivation to do great things both on and off the playing fields. Owa and Osa want the Odighizuwa family name to be forever associated with her hopeful promise of a better future. Just as her legacy of love and strength was their foundation, they want the Odighizuwa Foundation to offer the resources and support that can literally change lives.
Bio of mom and her story
Abieyuwa Odighizuwa (AB), a single mother of four young boys, who became the shining example of strength and courage in the face of severe adversity. AB had decided early that her sons playing sports was the best route to keep them out of trouble. She wanted them to focus on their education and life goals. Each one of them secured college scholarships and played either football or wrestling, fulfilling AB’s dream for their future.
Statistics on single parents
According to 2021 U.S. Census Bureau, 4 out of about 11 million single parent families with children under the age of 18, nearly 80 percent were headed by single mothers. Of all single-parent families in the U.S
